Listen

Haji Dukuray has proudly called New Castle County, DE home since 2006, but his journey began far from the East Coast of the United States. Originally from The Gambia, Haji migrated to the U.S. in 1988, driven by a thirst for opportunity and a desire to build a better life for himself and his family. Today, he is a devoted husband and father to four wonderful children, finding fulfillment in both his personal and professional life.

In addition to his role as a dedicated family man, Haji is deeply committed to serving his community and advocating for those whose voices might not otherwise be heard. He served as a commissioner on The Delaware African Caribbean Affairs Commission, this commission was formed by the governor to advice elected officials on issues related to people of African descent, that reside in the state of Delaware. Haji is reappointed to the commission, by Governor Matt Meyer. This commitment also led him to become actively involved in The Delaware Africa Coalition (DAC) and the Delaware Africa Caribbean Coalition (DACC). In January 2021, Haji was elected as Vice President of DACC, following his tenure as the Political Committee Chairman. He also serves as a board member for Sumpu Do Khatty, an organization that represents people of Soninke descent, fostering cultural pride and community engagement. In addition, he also serves as an Executive Committee Member of The Islamic Cultural Center of New York.

With over 30 years of experience in management, Haji has honed his skills in leadership and strategic planning. He believes wholeheartedly in the power of service and giving back to the human community. For Haji, this conviction goes beyond mere belief, it is a guiding principle that shapes his daily interactions and contributions. He sees every encounter as an opportunity to make a positive impact, whether through a kind word, a smile, or dedicated advocacy for social causes.

In all aspects of his life, Haji Dukuray exemplifies resilience, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to making a difference. His journey from West Africa to Delaware reflects not only personal achievement but also a deep-seated belief in the potential for unity and goodwill among all people, regardless of background or origin.
