Desmond A. Baker is a native of Kingston, Jamaica where he attended elementary thru high schools- ST. Andrew Technical High (STATHS).

He holds Bachelor of Engineering, Master of and Professional Engineering Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the City College of The City University of New York (CCNY-CUNY).

  Mr. Baker began his engineering career with the Proctor & Gamble Company in Cincinnati Ohio, and joined The DuPont Company in Delaware, in 1980.

  For his work in the consulting engineering field, in 1999 Mr. Baker was elected as one of two engineers in the state of Delaware as Fellows in The Consulting Engineering Council of America.

  Mr. Baker has Professional Engineer registrations in the States of Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Jamaica, West Indies.

  In 1985 Mr. Baker started Desmond A Baker & Associates, LLC. a full service architectural and consulting engineering firm located in Wilmington, DE. The firm provides Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering services.

  He is a member and Vice Chair of the Riverfront Development Corporation, Vice Chair of the City of Wilmington, DE. Planning Commission, member of the City of Wilmington, DE. Building Codes Appeal Board; Member and Vice Chair of The State of Delaware Heath Facilities Bond Committee, Commission Member for Delaware Commission on African and Caribbean Affairs, Member of the Board of Christina Cultural Arts Center, Member of the Board of DOEC, DE (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority), and Member of the Delaware Chapter of American Civil Liberty Union (ACLU).

  Mr. Baker is a Rotarian for 25 years, and is past President of the Wilmington Caesar Rodney Rotary Club. He remains involved in local and international aid and community efforts sponsored by Rotary International.

  He is an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc (Wilmington Alumni) and The Kappa Achievement Center.

  He’s married to Dr. Glenda Smith-Baker (Radiation Oncologist) and the proud father of Norkia, Ian (Tay) and Haley, and Pop-Pop to Sage and Somry (twins- 54 months), and Bryce (24 Months).
